The migraine experience is not one you want to have. Migraine headaches are painful and can make life much more difficult than it needs to be. Lost hours lying in a dark room with your head pounding is never any fun. There are countless remedies with varying degrees of success. I want to share with you today a highly effective way to eliminate migraine headaches.

Most people have a preconceived idea of what a chiropractor does. They also have a fixed idea that we chiropractors crack peoples’ backs for a living. They are partially right. The real role of the chiropractor is to relieve pressure on the nervous system allowing the body to express itself. Our built in ability to self regulate is called out innate intelligence. How does the kidney know to filter out certain fluids and replenish others running through it? Innate intelligence. Why does a woman's period happen on a certain cycle ? Innate intelligence. The body knows what it wants to do something and it does so without a thought from our conscience self.

When the bones in the neck are out of place they put added stress onto some of the nerves that go into the head. The delicate nerves are squeezed by the misaligned vertebra. Left alone the nerve gets irritated even more as time passes. When a nerve is irritated it causes pain. A typical response is to medicate to stop the pain. when your head is pounding it makes sense to do anything that will stop the pain. Eventually the symptoms subside for a period of time until symptoms reappear. A cycle begins. The pain is brought on by added stress and a pill makes the pain go away. The underlying problem is merely covered up. The headache lies in wait for another chance to rear its’ ugly head again. The chance of that pill eliminating the migraine headache for good is zero. The wrong fire is being put out.

A cervical x-ray will show if there is a serious misalignment of the neck. I have seen a loss of the normal curvature of the neck on every case of headache I have treated in my 23 years of practice.. One problem I see is that so few people are aware of this. many will have MRI’s & Ct Scans that are negative. The less expensive x-ray can tell us much. The loss of curvature results in added pressure to the base of the brain stem. Neural tissue is quite sensitive and when a bone is compressing it a terrible headache can occur. You can see all the specialists in the world but the very solution might be found in a chiropractors’ office.

Ask your M.D. about seeing a chiropractor for your headache and he will look at you funny as he sends you to a neurologist for a consult. If you have a serious chronic disease I would agree that you would need to see a neurologist. But when your MRI and Ct Scan is negative you would be better served by consulting a chiropractor. If your cervical x-ray shows a loss of curvature you are an excellent candidate for successfully resolving your headaches for good.

Why doesn’t your M.D. know this ? They are not taught it in school. They are working off a medical model that relies on medication and surgical intervention to resolve health issues. There is a purpose in this for sure. The patient with chronic migraines that go unresolved would greatly benefit from a chiropractic consult. The sad thing is that very few people will receive that advice. For years the medical profession has looked down on chiropractic care. The prejudice still exists today and the patients’ lose out. Ask a migraine sufferer what they go through and you will realize that they are in agony and the toll it takes on their personal and professional lives is quite high.

How do we change that? Educating the medical profession would be a start. Personally I have found that most medical doctors are not receptive. They have formed an opinion and they are not open to change their opinion. How many people have to suffer needlessly? Why should they have to endure migraine headache misery. As a chiropractor I can only help those who want to be helped. My job is to educate and I hope that by reading this you will have a better idea of what chiropractors can do for headaches. Just give us a chance.
